BUILDING A GOD: DATA IN PRESENT AND FUTURE WORLD

As I write this article, I came to episode 6 when I watched Westworld Season 3 for the second time. A series of Westworlds that's got a lot to talk about - I'm going to write a lot of blogs about it. This section also gives us some questions on its own. It reminds us of the incredible power that knowledge and information storage, data, statistics, and probability will have in our tomorrows.

"We needed a God who would create order out of chaos so we created it." This sentence from season 3 of Westworld got me thinking and writing about "data science".

Even now, while our personal information is stored and shared by many applications, sites, and entities, it is not impossible to imagine a dystopian future as Westworld presents.

God; is supreme, omniscient, controlling, and has the highest will. Just like "Rehoboam" in this episode. Rehoboam is a data collector and storage system. And he not only predicts the future with the data he has but also directs people. He sees some small areas of freedom that are incompatible with the system, so to speak, as the fault of the world and humanity. Rehoboam can detect from a person's best friend to how they die. Seeing almost every possible future doesn't stop people from being "bad" though. Crime rates, suicides, fraud, and many other crimes are still being committed. As you can see, those who set out for the good of humanity could not do more than gain themselves a greater power.

While all the data of the world, everyone's past and future are in this sphere, of course, Rehoboam, God; Its architect - Serac - takes on the role of God's creator.

But you know that God is often "transcendent", his will is above all, and man is helpless. All this data is stored without the knowledge of people. As Liam said, even if it sounds a little diabolical:

"There are things people shouldn't know."

Things like when and how you will die, what will happen to your beloved child, and what disaster awaits humanity, are ideal for not being known. Seriously sometimes not knowing is a blessing. But it's human, greedy, and complex... He prefers living in chaos to living in control.

Harari says in his book 21 Lessons for the 21st Century;

"Due to technologies such as data, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, the need for human power will decrease so much in the future that people will begin to become unnecessary in masses."

In Westworld season 3, we are watching a dystopia that confirms it. People who do not like the data and the system are seen as glitches that need to be fixed, Free will is like a crime, a violation. However, somehow Serac has convinced himself that all this is for the benefit of humanity.

While this is the case in the series and I'm not writing a series commentary, I need to talk a little bit about the real world. The future will surely come. We are sure of that. The god of the future on earth will be data, statistics, and probability. They will ask, "What kind of superpower would you like to have?" We will answer with"I wish my brain could process all the data in the universe and predict future possibilities." I'm not talking about the very distant future. Whatever you define as "I" can be read tomorrow, just as Dolores read the book of all humanity. You can see your personality and ties as 0 and 1. Those who can not only see but process this information become the Gods of that day. Isn't that what people are always after?

God complex with no God inside of you...

Data science; is a multidisciplinary field that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms, and systems to extract information and insights from structured and unstructured data. Of course, data science is a much more technical and lengthy issue than what I wrote here. What if everything is data? Who knows what data analytics will cause in the future, which is at the heart of even today's ethical debates. What if what we call the laws of physics is that each subatomic particle produces data one by one and reorganizes itself according to the data that emerges and "exists"? Because, according to quantum physics, a single type of subatomic particle actually determines a superposition among an infinite number of possibilities.

Supernovas exploding at any moment, new stars forming, maybe new single-celled creatures forming on new planets, or life in other galaxies... The Cosmos... Is all this data just floating around in the void and waiting for someone to find and interpret it?

We, as microcosms, are trying to collect the pieces of our consciousness and find ourselves, to be balanced, one, and whole within ourselves.

"A sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. Arthur C Clarke

Pregnant with highly advanced technologies, data science is indeed like magic. The one who owns the data actually has the power of manipulation, that is, free will. Not being manipulated is possible with our personal efforts. By knowing ourselves, philosophizing on ourselves, and perhaps not trying to play God...

Data science is the science of the future. Data-related skills will be the biggest strength of 21st-century homo sapiens sapiens. This is why it is so important to read yourself and the universe. Finding out who you are without being told who you are...
