WHAT IS "MUN", WHY YOU SHOULD PARTICIPATE?

In this article, "What is MUN, why should you join?" I will explain, and I plan to explain the procedures in subsequent articles.

MUN (Model United Nations) is simply a simulation of the United Nations organized by high school and university students. In these conferences, current problems of the UN are discussed and some final papers containing rational solutions are written. This usually takes place over 3 days, with English being the primary language of the conferences. With the same logic of a parliament, there are rules, dress codes, political relations, and alliances.

WHY YOU SHOULD BE A "MUNer"

1- Attending MUN conferences will improve you a lot in terms of general culture.

2- You will make entertaining friendships.

3- If you try to improvise, your English speaking will improve, and you will also expand your vocabulary by learning many conference-related words.

4- You will have a philosophy for the future, especially with the "future crisis" themed committees.

5- You will gain many skills such as "How politicians behave, how to discuss politics in a balanced and respectful way, and how to put your interests forward in political relations.".

6- You will prove your professionalism in a language that is not your first language.

7- With the documents you receive, you will show your earnings to employers, schools, and all other official relations.

FAQ

-MY ENGLISH IS NOT VERY GOOD, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

This certainly does not prevent you from participating in MUNs. First of all, I recommend you to join the GA committees, which operate on the most basic procedure. Since speaking extemporaneously is your prerogative in most committees, you can write everything down on paper and look at it. This might make you a little passive in discussions, but don't worry. You will improve yourself!

-WILL I GET A CERTIFICATE OF PARTICIPATION?

Of course! And this certificate will give you an advantage in your official relations for the reasons I wrote above.

-WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND TO A FIRST-TIMER?

First of all, "You got this!". At the first conference, my biggest suggestion is to "observe". You don't have to talk all the time, especially on the first day, you can stay quiet and try to solve the problem. Rest assured, no one will judge you. Everyone has been a first-timer at least once :) An option other than learning at the conference may be to learn the procedure through your research. You can also review the procedure articles that I will publish for this.
